As other parts of the IT industry begin to see the light at the end of the recent recessionary tunnel, server vendors in general and Oracle in particular should brace themselves for more pain, according to new data from TheInfoPro.
The new study, based on data gathered from 252 Fortune 1000 company executives, finds that 38% companies plan to reduce the server budgets this year, whilst only 25% plan to increase them. Continue Reading

Corporate IT spending may still be lagging the levels of two years ago, says a new Computer Economics study, but recovering is coming lead by strong demand for Microsoft Windows 7, and growing interest in desktop virtualisation and unified communications.
According to Computer Economics’ latest Technology Trends 2010/ 2011 study whilst only 3% of IT organizations have so far migrated to Windows 7, 31% said they had ear marked funds for migrating to the new desktop operating system in their latest IT budgets. Continue Reading

If an organisation decides it wants a communications infrastructure as green as the world’s most famous frog, it will have to show commitment if it really wants to reduce its carbon footprint. Ultimately, it will face the decision whether or not – if push comes to shove – profit is sacrificed for environmental brownie points.
Any “green” benefits, including power, space and heat reduction – the by-products of a well-designed virtualised environment – happen to be part of an effective business strategy. Whatever the marketing hype declares, that business strategy always comes first. Fortunately, there are genuine reductions in an organisation’s carbon footprint to be gained by going virtual.
